A Celebration of Life for Catherine Briggs
August 27th, 2008 10:24 AM

Recently, a “Celebration of Life” was held in memory of Catherine Murphy Briggs.  We had the honor of meeting Mrs. Briggs but never the pleasure of really knowing her and the joy that she brought to the lives of all she touched.  It is our lament.

Mrs. Briggs was well known in Our Lady of Good Counsel’s parish in Vienna, VA, and in St Mark, Vienna, VA.  A contemporary of the Mrs. Brigg’s children relayed a story to us: a group of children were sledding a hill in Vienna.  A woman approaches the crest of the hill with two young children in tow atop a sled.  She confidently positions herself and the two kids on the sled and takes off down the hill.  After climbing back to the top of the hill, the woman, Catherine Briggs, hops on the sled face down and takes off down the hill alone.  As the friend remarked, this wasn’t something you saw an adult do everyday.  This was a parent he admired and wanted to know better.

Many of Catherine’s children are counted among close friends and our condolences and prayers go out to them, their father and her 21 grand and 2 great grand children.

Hunter Mill
August 26th, 2008 12:55 PM

•  Is Hunter Mill Road getting a new bike lane?  It would appear that from the new recreation area where the old school house was moved down to the area near Vale Road the shoulder is being widened.  Maybe they are just adding an apron.  But I would still like to think of it as a new bike lane.

•  Speaking of Hunter Mill, where is it?  CNNMoney.com did a story on Hunter Mill, Virginia.  It was named one of the "best places to live" in 2008.  They say it is located "near Vienna and Washington, D.C." where we have the amenities "without the traffic and hustle".

•  School starts next and if the kids aren't ready, we parents are.

80 properties under contract sounds like a healthy market.

Know something that we should all be aware of?  Let us know by email.
